LandscapingDown and Dirty with Dave
1. Choose a spot in the yard that get at least 6 hours of direct or semi filtered sunlight. 2. In my opinion, raised beds are the way to go. Easy to build (just four sides as long and as wide as you want). 3. Prepare your soil. You can enrich any basic dirt with peat (to hold moisture) and good cow manure. Till and rake smooth. 4. Chose your plants. (Cherry tomatoes are brainless to grow. They produce a ton of fruit and are fun for the kids to pick.) Think about the up-coming seasons, July is a good time to plant pumpkins for Halloween picking. 5. Keep the beds weeded (not as hard as it sounds, if you see a weed, PULL IT OUT, easy). Weeds suck water and nutrients away from your crop. 6. Harvest often. Pick when the produce is ripe. It will allow your plant to focus its energy on growing new produce rather than maintaining whats already ripe. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!!!! |
