The Auto Club 500

The race today was a snoozer. It was a duel between the up and down luck
of Tony Stewart and the ultra fast car of Greg Biffle. But as happens a lot
in NASCAR Nextel Cup racing a funny thing happened on the way to victory
lane. Their engines gave out in the final laps. This left Matt Kenseth to
break his long drought and pick up a victory in The Auto Club 500. His only
competition came from last weeks Daytona winner Jimmie Johnson. But on this
day, the Lowes team didn't have the power to run down the DeWalt Ford owned
by Jack Roush. The race was an advertisement for caffeine with Biffle leading
the middle of the race by about ten seconds over second place. The highlight
for me was when long time NASCAR driver turned commentator Darrel Waltrip
stated "You can't learn from history. That is the one thing history has taught
us." Leave it to D.W. to bring me out of my nap with color like that. He
is one of a kind, but we like him.

For the Earnhardt Nation; Dale Junior finished eleventh in a car that
just didn't have it today.
For the Regis and Kelly Lee fans; Jeff Gordon finished thirteenth
when he didn't get fresh tires at the end of the race and everyone behind
him did.
